World Mental Health Day

From our Founder: Channelling my inner Hugh Jackman?

One of our favourite clients is running an event next week with a Greatest Showman theme – who doesn’t love that film?

Now for those who have seen it (or want a good excuse to re-watch it), you’ll have seen how P.T Barnum has this unwavering ability to dream big and live fearlessly.

Tick to that.

I want us to be able to support people across the globe to ensure that everyone can work in psychologically safe environments.  It’s a massive goal, hugely intimidating but what a goal to inspire us to always push that bit further and to be that bit bolder.

So maybe living fearlessly isn’t as easy as it sounds and I still have my constant worry that we aren’t doing enough but if we can survive a pandemic, we can survive anything, right?

Now Barnum also has this ability to balance grand dreams with specific, well-defined goals. His clarity about what he intends to achieve is evident – whether it’s the unique business he plans to build, the dream house he envisions for his family, or the team he carefully selects.

Every detail is meticulously planned.

(If you care to spend 3.5 hours watching me show you my pinterest board for my new house then I fully support that…)

But for the business, I have a plan, yes that plan changes pretty darn regularly when an obstacle throws itself in a way but it also changes when a brilliant opportunity throws itself in our path too.

So it might be that my planning is slightly more fluid and adaptable but there is a vision with an intention – I think that might be good enough?!

So we also learn from Barnum’s story that in the hustle and bustle of life, we often forget about our relationships and family. And yes, this is a tricky one, even for someone that runs a workplace wellbeing company.

Whilst I work on my BE:DO balance constantly, it’s something that does require constant work and I know my passion has to be curtailed sometimes to focus on other priorities. I don’t want to emulate that part of the story.

So far so good.

OK so onto the role of a Ringmaster.

Definition: a person whose job is to introduce the performers in a circus and to talk to the audience between performances.

And let’s be honest, what business isn’t a bit like a circus.

So I introduce our fab team, our amazing content and talk to the clients during their programmes – that sounds about right.

So there might not be that much in common between Wolverine and I but there’s something I can take from his role as P.T. Barnum – never give up and wear some brilliant outfits along the way.

…I’m not scared to be seen, I make no apologies, this is me…
