What is the reason for 55% of sick days?

The Labour Force Survey found that in 2019-20, stress, depression or anxiety accounted for 51% of all work-related ill health cases and 55% of all working days lost to ill health.

There are so many reasons that stress and wellbeing should be taken seriously in your business and reducing sick days is just one of them.

What time do people want to start work?

A survey by YouGov found only 14% of employees would opt for working hours of the traditional 9am – 5pm.  27% of employees in London wanted their work day to begin after 9am.

And most interestingly, 66% of UK employees would rather start and finish earlier than the old school 9am – 5pm.

We at Stress Matters HQ are big believers in fluid working where employees are encouraged to work to objectives rather than a timecard.

What is an organisation's top engagement driver?

Nearly half of people polled, 46%, believe that having a good work-life balance is the top engagement driver at their organisation.

The question we ask at Stress Matters HQ though is how can an organisation determine what a good work:life balance is?  We suspect they can’t but that the key element might be TRUST, giving the flexibility to the employees to  decide how to create their balance.  All it takes is trust.

Would you be able to spot if one of your team was struggling with stress?

It is reported that a third of line managers would struggle to identify whether their staff were experiencing mental health problems.

Bupa also found that 30% of line managers would not know what to do if somebody in their team did have an issue with their mental health.  That’s why we think it is vital for line managers to have stress management training.  Drop us a line if you want to get some training set-up.

What is the average spend on company wellbeing programmes?

The Rewards & Employee Benefits Association tells us that average spend per employee on a wellbeing programme is £51 – £75, with 41% expecting that number to increase this year.

How many managers would be supportive of employees with mental health disorders?

It’s a massive shame, but it was found that just 20% believe their manager would be supportive, as they feared their employers wouldn’t take them seriously.
Now, this doesn’t mean those managers wouldn’t be supportive. But their teams don’t think they would be. What’s worse?
